HTML 6-HTML Final project

Objectives

Students will apply knowledge learned in previous assignments to create a webpage about their personal and family culture.

Instructions

Using what you have learned, create two more webpages that will link to your original. You are going to create an entire web site. Your site is going to be dedicated to you, your family culture, and your culture. Below are the requirements for each page:

Your page--Your page should be the one you've already created. It should have the information about you that you would like to share with people. In addition, you need to do the following:

  1. Create a link to your second page. Name your second page yourname2.html. In other words, I would name it toryk2.html. The link should be something like "click here to learn more about my family's culture and traditions."
  2. Create a link to your third page. Name your third page yourname3.html. (I.E. toryk3.html.) The link should be something like "Click here to learn more about the ____ culture." (For me it might say "Click here to learn more about the Irish Culture."
Your family page--What I don't want is a page with pictures of your dogs and cats, but instead a family history, culture, and traditions. We all come from somewhere. Teach us about where your family comes from. Your page should include:
  1. A brief family history.
  2. An interesting family story.
  3. Information about where your ancestors/family comes from (what country or culture).
  4. A family favorite recipe.
  5. A list of family traditions.
  6. Pictures (these can be of your family, of your culture, pertaining to a tradition, etc.)
  7. At least one optional
  1. NO LAST NAMES! Remember, we want to learn about your family, but we don't want to give away information that would make you feel uncomfortable.
Your Culture Page--Now that we know about you and your family, we want to learn about your culture. We all have a culture where we have our roots. You are going to do some research on your culture and teach us about it. What I don't want is a word for word description from an encyclopedia. What I do want is information about your culture in a personal, meaningful way. I have included a sample of my personal webpage for you to take a look at.

Steps to creating this page:

  1. Choose your culture. You may have a variety of cultures in your background, so choose one to focus on. It can be the one that you are most interested in, the one your family celebrates the most, or the one you know the most about. For example, my background is English, Irish, Scottish, and French with some smatterings of American Indian and African American. However, because there is Irish on my mother's and my father's side, I have chosen Irish.
  2. Research your culture. I will provide books for you to look at, and helper worksheets for you to fill out, but you must do a lot of this on your own at the library and on the internet. Have your parents help you! They can be a wonderful resource for this project!
  3. Create your page!
Your page must contain the following:
  1. Information on your culture.
  2. The country of origin of your culture (see me if you need a map, or bring one in to scan).
  3. A flag from your country of origin. It can be a current flag, or a traditional flag/banner.
  4. Cultural/country information. Choose at least three of the following:
  1. Personal insights/feelings/experiences that relate to where you came from. How does it feel to learn about your background? What intrigues you? What didn't you know that you do now? You can end the page with this to really make it personal.
Other requirements:
  1. Each page must have a link to each of the other pages.
  2. Each page must contain color, pictures (I can scan them or we can find them on the internet), etc.
  3. You can include music or sound--if you are interested, see me.
